Coloured Tapware - Everything You Should Know

A splash of character: Everything you need to know about coloured tapware for bathroom taps and kitchen taps

If you have seen any home renovation show over the last couple of years there is one thing that will have struck you about every kitchen and bathroom makeover.

Coloured tapware is all the rage.

Whether it’s in a bathroom or a kitchen, tapware is the latest space to demonstrate flare and colour in your home. Whether it’s matte black, gunmetal, brushed gold, rose gold or even brushed nickel, the days of silver chrome tapware are leaving us.

In some ways it’s back to the future.

Coloured tapware was all the rage in the 70s, before falling out of favour to silver chrome. But with a wide variety of products on the market with even greater durability, it seems adding a splash of colour to your kitchen and bathroom through the use of coloured wall mounted taps, floor mounted taps or spout taps is a trend that could be hear to stay for some time.

So, what do you need to know before taking the plunge into coloured kitchen taps or bathroom taps?

At Appliances Today, we don’t just stock the biggest and best range of coloured tapware at the best prices, we help you understand them to!

So, what do you need to know about coloured tapware? Let’s get started…

Why coloured tapware?

Utilising coloured tapware throughout your house is about so much more than just following the latest trends. It presents a new opportunity to demonstrate your style and personality throughout the home.

As a point of design within a kitchen or bathroom, tapware can now be a really exciting element that ties everything else in the room together.

There’s a reason Shayna Blaze gets a real kick out of seeing classy, coloured tapware on the hit TV show, The Block! It’s a really affordable way to achieve that extra sense of lux in your kitchen or bathroom.

What do I need to think about when using coloured tapware?

As stated above, coloured tapware for your kitchen taps and/or bathroom taps is a great way to add a high-end feel to your kitchen or bathroom, but it’s not an excuse to go crazy.

The biggest thing to think about when using coloured tapware, whether it is for wall mounted taps, spot taps or floor mounted taps, is that they fit in with what’s happening elsewhere in the room.

A black and white bathroom might not be the best place for rose gold taps. The best way to think about this is to think about the accessories in the room. If you are thinking about coloured kitchen taps, for example, you want to think about what colour the cabinetry handles will be.

In a bathroom, what colour will the towel racks be?

Rose gold tapware with matte black towel racks might not be the best look.

Picking the right colours for your kitchen and/or bathroom taps

You now know the benefits of coloured tapware, and you have some principles to go with in terms of narrowing down our choice of colours, so how do you choose the right coloured tapware?

Let’s run through your choices:

Matte Black: An extremely popular choice because, let’s face it, black goes with just about anything. Neutral tones are hugely popular at the moment and matte black is a perfect fit for whites and greys. Plus, they’re super easy to clean, too! Just be mindful of harsh chemicals.

Rose Gold: If you’re looking to make a statement, rose gold could be your best friend. This warm, inviting finish works well with marble and stone.

Brushed Nickel: Brushed nickel might be considered a bit of a halfway home for those not ready to go bold with their coloured tapware after being so used to silver chrome. This colour is a warmer and softer look than silver chrome, however. It’s also fingerprint resistant and easy to keep clean.

Gunmetal: Becoming increasingly popular, gunmetal is a shade of grey. Unlike chrome, you won’t get any fingerprints on gunmetal tapware. Perhaps it’s biggest benefit however is its versatility. It really does work with just about any colour scheme you can throw at it.

Brushed Gold: A bolder and brighter choice than brushed gold, this colour can make a room pop if used correctly. Brushed gold is a fantastic way to add a bit of elegance to any room.
