Sinks Installation Tips
- Will your sink fit in your desired location? Do you need to get a cabinet maker or stonemason to modify the existing location?
Itβs important to check the dimensions of your new appliance against the dimensions of the existing appliance or existing opening to make sure that the new appliance will fit.
Yes β If your new sink fits in the existing sink location, no cabinet or benchtop modifications should be necessary.
No β If your new sink doesnβt fit in the existing sink location, a cabinet maker will may be required β Feel free to call for additional information or a quote.
If you are installing a new kitchen, it is a good idea to purchase your cooktop before hand so your cabinet maker or benchtop installers can cut out for the new sink correctly.
-Β Are you replacing your existing sink?
If you are replacing your existing sink, it is a good idea measure the current opening in your benchtop to check that the new sink will fit. If the new sink is larger than your existing one, a cabinet maker or benchtop installer may be required to modify to suit the new sink installation. Feel free to call for additional information or a quote.
-Β Is your new sink going to be undermount or over mount?
Undermount and overmount sinks, basins or troughs are similar in design, but have a different finished look and have different installation requirements.
Undermountβ These are mounted underneath the benchtop but on top of the cabinetry. These can only be installed BEFORE your benchtops have been installed.
Overmountβ These are installed on top of your benchtop, and have screwable brackets to hold the sink/basin/trough down to your cabinetry. These can only be installed AFTER the benchtop has been installed.
- Do you require any alterations to your current tapware to suit your new sink?
If you are wanting to replace your existing sink, itβs advised to check that the new sink will be compatible with the current tap you have installed.
In certain circumstances you may need to alter the sink or tapware to suit the installation. You may need to cut a hole in a stainless steel sink for your tap, or you may need to drill a new tap hole through your timber or stone benchtop. If the hot and hold water supply is accessible in the cupboard underneath, we should be able to modify the pipework to suit most newer style mixer taps.
Works like these should be done by a professional to avoid damage to your kitchen, sink or tapware. Feel free to call for additional information or a quote.
-Β If this is a new install, do you have water and sewerage close by and readily available for use?
Yes - If there is hot and cold water supply and a sewer drainage point in the cupboard underneath the sink readily available for use, we should be able to connect your dishwasher to those.
No - If there is no nearby water supply or sewerage you will be required to run a new pipe from your hot and cold water service, and a new drainage point from your sewer drain β a quote will be required. Feel free to call for additional information or a quote.
- Always ensure to engage a licensed plumber for installation so it complies with Australian Standards.
If your installation includes any plumbing or electrical work itβs essential to use a licensed plumber or electrician. Licensed trades must hold insurance to be granted their license, which protects both you and your home. A licensed trade has a higher standard of knowledge and experience than someone who is only registered or in training.
