Sink Taps Installation Tips

- Do you require a pressure limiting valve?

Depending on the water pressure at your property, your tap may require a pressure limiting valve to be installed before the tap. A pressure limiting valve reduces the pressure of the water after it flows through the valve. This is designed to protect the parts within your tap. If one isn’t installed where required, it can damage the internal parts and cause the tap to drip or leak.

Many manufacturers will only warranty their products if there is a pressure limiting valve installed meeting a certain pressure (eg. 500kPa). If Please be sure to check the β€˜resources’ section under each dishwasher listing on our website to view the technical specifications sheet of your appliance. Feel free to call for additional information or a quote.

- Do you require any alterations to your current tapware to suit your new sink?

If you are wanting to replace your existing sink, it’s advised to check that the new sink will be compatible with the current tap you have installed.

In certain circumstances you may need to alter the sink or tapware to suit the installation. You may need to cut a hole in a stainless steel sink for your tap, or you may need to drill a new tap hole through your timber or stone benchtop. If the hot and hold water supply is accessible in the cupboard underneath, we should be able to modify the pipework to suit most newer style mixer taps.

Works like these should be done by a professional to avoid damage to your kitchen, sink or tapware. Feel free to call for additional information or a quote.

- If installing a β€˜vegetable sprayer’ (pull out tap) do you have room in the cupboard space below?

The design of a pull out or β€˜vegetable sprayer’ kitchen mixer tap is very convenient for washing vegetables, fruit, dishes and more.

However, due to the β€˜pull out’ nature of the spraying hose, room is needed in the cupboard underneath the sink for the hose to retract back into the tap. The length of the hose normally dangles down around 3/4 of the height of your kitchen cupboards, straight down below your tap - so any shelfing or pipework in the way may need to be altered to make the tap fit. Feel free to call for additional information or a quote.

- Do you require a stonemason to drill a hole in your stone benchtop for your new tap?

If you are either wanting to replace your existing tap, or whether you are installing a tap in a new kitchen – you may want your tap mounted in your stone benchtop.

Installing a tap in your stone benchtop requires carefully drilling a hole through the benchtop that is around the width of your mixer tap stem, and this should be done by a professional. Depending on the thickness and quality of the stone benchtop – one of our plumbers should be able to drill the hole before the tap is installed. Feel free to call for additional information or a quote.

- Do you need a mixer or tap set? How many holes do you have?

A traditional tap set consists of three holes in the sink, basin, vanity, benchtop etc. The three holes are for hot water, cold water and the spout of the tap.

A mixer tap more modern and common style of tap. It consists of a single adjustable handle and spout delivering both hot and cold water through it.

If you are thinking of changing over your basin, sink or trough taps to either a mixer or tap set it is often possible, but some additional works would need to undertaken done to change them. If you have a mixer tap installed in a wall (eg. Shower or bath) – it is generally more difficult to replace them. Feel free to call for additional information or a quote.

-Β Always ensure to engage a licensed plumber for installation so it complies with Australian Standards.

If your installation includes any plumbing or electrical work it’s essential to use a licensed plumber or electrician. Licensed trades must hold insurance to be granted their license, which protects both you and your home. A licensed trade has a higher standard of knowledge and experience than someone who is only registered or in training.

  • Will you be replacing like for like or changing the style of the tapware? If you are changing the tapware, please ensure the existing cut out will suit the new tap design.
  • Please take note that if you have an existing 3-piece tapware style you will most likely not be able to replace with a mixer tap unless additional work takes place.
  • Does your household water pressure comply with the new tapware?
